Why Staying Consistent with Food Choices is So Hard - and What Actually Helps

If you’ve ever said, “I do great for a few days… and then fall right back into old patterns,” you’re not alone.
Inconsistent progress is one of the most frustrating parts of the recovery journey. One day you're feeling strong and motivated — the next you're standing in front of the fridge, wondering how you ended up there again.
So what’s going on?
The truth is, change is hard — especially when food has been your comfort, your reward, or your escape for years. And the enemy loves to whisper, “See? You’ll never change.”
But here’s the good news: you can change.
Not perfectly. Not instantly. But through Christ, one step at a time.
Galatians 6:9 (ESV): “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Staying consistent doesn’t require perfection — it requires surrender. When you rely on willpower alone, you burn out. But when you lean on God’s strength and build rhythms of support into your life, consistency becomes possible.
Here are a few small shifts that can make a big difference:
Start your day with prayer — invite God into your food choices from the start.
Make a simple plan — even if it’s just the next meal.
Stay connected — check in with a support group, a coach, or a trusted friend.
Remind yourself why this matters — your body is a temple, and you are worth protecting.
And when you slip? Don’t start over next Monday. Start over with the very next bite. That’s how consistency is built.
