Step 11: Time With God

Person walks on stone steps across water. Text: "The 12 Steps, Our walk with God." URL and logo at bottom. Peaceful setting.

I used to think Step 11 meant I needed a long, quiet time with God every day… or I wasn’t doing it right.

And honestly, that just made me feel like I was failing.

But what I’ve learned is this:

For me, Step 11 looks like short prayers throughout the day.

Not long, perfect prayers.

Just simple, honest ones in the moment.

“God, help me right now.”

“Lord, give me wisdom.”

“Please take this craving.”

And those small prayers?

They do more than I expected.

They keep my mind on God…

and off myself.

Because when my focus stays on me—what I want, what I feel, what I’m craving—that’s when I start to spiral.

But when I turn to God, even for a few seconds, everything shifts.

Basically, the point is this:

Step 11 isn’t about doing something perfectly once a day.

It’s about staying connected to God all day long.

And that connection changes things.

“Pray without ceasing.”

—1 Thessalonians 5:17 (ESV)

If you’re struggling today, you don’t need to do more.

Just pause…

and say a quick prayer.
