Step One

The hardest step in recovery from overeating isn't giving up sugar. It's giving up the illusion that we can control it.

For years, I told myself the same thing:

"This time I'll just eat in moderation."

"I'll have better willpower tomorrow."

"I just need to try harder."

The problem wasn't that I didn't know what to do.

The problem was that I couldn't keep doing it.

That's why Step One is so important.

Recovery begins with honesty.

Honesty that what we've been doing isn't working.

Honesty that willpower alone isn't enough.

Honesty that we need God's help.

For me, everything changed when I stopped asking, "How can I try harder?" and started asking, "Lord, I can't do this without You."

Jesus said, "Apart from Me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)

That isn't a message of defeat. It's an invitation to stop carrying a burden we were never meant to carry alone.

The moment we stop pretending we're in control is often the moment God begins to do His greatest work in us.

If you've been fighting this battle in your own strength, perhaps today is the day to surrender it to Christ.

Not because you've failed.

But because His strength is greater than yours.

❤️ Freedom begins when we stop relying on ourselves and start depending on Him.
