The 12 Steps - Our walk with God

I remember standing in front of the pantry late at night, telling myself, “just one cookie.” But it was never just one. No matter how much I promised myself, I couldn’t control it.

That cycle finally broke when I realized recovery isn’t about more control — it’s about surrender.

“It has been said that the first three steps simply put are: ‘I can’t; God can; I think I’ll let God!’”

— Julie Kleinhans, 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating

Turning our will and our lives over to God brings freedom from the exhausting cycle of trying harder and failing harder. When we admit “I can’t” and believe “God can” — we find the courage to finally say “I’ll let God.” That’s where healing begins.
