
Recovering from overeating can be very difficult! With so much of the food available today filled with sugar, artificial sweeteners and other chemicals, the food is addictive. How many times have we agreed that sugar is addictive, yet still think we can stop after eating just one? It took me a while to finally become abstinent from my binge foods, and it will likely take you some time also.
After a slip or all-out binge, don't berate yourself. It only hurts you and your program when you are mean to yourself and let shame get the best of you. Just pick yourself up, pray for strength, and try again. With God's help, you can do this!
It took me a few years, but I found abstinence from my binge foods and lost over 90 pounds. I've been maintaining a healthy weight ever since and have found strength in God to remain abstinent. Having a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and prayer are a few things that can help you get and stay abstinent. Just don't give up—it will never happen if you give up. Every step forward brings you closer to lasting freedom.
