Letting God Lead: A Daily Practice That Builds Real Change

Walking through the 12 Steps isn’t just a process of recovery — it’s a daily walk with God. Each step brings us closer to healing, freedom, and deeper dependence on Him.

In any healing or recovery journey, it’s easy to get caught up in trying to “do it right.” But real change — the kind that lasts — comes not from perfection, but from daily connection.

That’s the heart behind Step Ten. It’s a gentle, powerful invitation to look at our day with honesty and humility, not to shame ourselves, but to stay spiritually awake.

“We let our Lord and Savior guide us in our recovery process and guide our thoughts, words, and actions, and strengthen our walk with God.”

— Julie Kleinhans, 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating

This step reminds us that God is not a distant observer. He wants to be involved in every part of our life — especially in our thoughts, words, and actions. Each night, or as needed throughout the day, we can pause and reflect:

Was I resentful today?

Did fear or frustration affect my choices?

Is there someone I need to forgive… or ask forgiveness from?

And most importantly: Did I let God guide me, or was I running on self-will?

Step Ten isn’t about perfection — it’s about alignment. We align ourselves daily with God’s will, trusting that He will strengthen us to make better choices, repair relationships, and walk in freedom.

When we stay consistent with this practice, we begin to notice real growth — not just in our eating habits, but in our emotional and spiritual life too. Old patterns lose their grip. New peace begins to take root. That’s the fruit of letting God lead — one day at a time.

The good news is: we don’t do this alone. We have a loving God, a clear process, and a supportive community around us. Together, we are learning how to live in the solution.
