
I skipped Step One in my post last week and mistakenly posted Step Two. It was just an administrative mistake, but it reminds me how crucial Step One is and why it should never be skipped or minimized in its importance. Without acknowledging the problem with certain high-sugar, high-fat, and high-carb foods, it's too easy to convince ourselves that we can have just one.
An alcoholic knows that one drink can lead to a relapse, and compulsive overeaters are no different. This issue is serious, and we must recognize where one bite can lead us, including serious health effects such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver disease, joint pain, and certain cancers. Don't skip over Step One, or you risk jeopardizing your recovery. In fact, I encourage you to keep revisiting Step One to keep your road to recovery strong.
