Step One: The Turning Point

“I just need to try harder.”

I used to believe that.

I thought if I could just get more disciplined… more motivated… more committed… then I would finally be able to control my eating.

But the truth is—trying harder never worked for long.

Step 1 is where everything begins:

👉 Admitting that we are powerless over certain foods

👉 Recognizing that our way hasn’t worked

👉 Becoming willing to do something different

This is not about failure.

This is about honesty.

Here’s something I wrote in my Step 1 chapter that really captures it:

“I used to say, ‘It’s too extreme! I just need to learn to eat in moderation.’ I had to ask myself, ‘How’s that working for you?’ It didn’t work for me.”

That question changed everything for me.

Because once I stopped pretending I could manage it on my own…

I became open to real freedom.

Basically, the point is…

Step 1 isn’t the end—it’s the beginning.

It’s where we stop fighting the truth…

and start walking toward healing—with God’s help.

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. This is exactly where recovery starts.
