Emotional eating often happens quickly — long before we even realize what’s happening. Stress, frustration, loneliness, and worry can all push us toward food as a way to self-soothe.
But there is a simple, Christ-centered practice that can interrupt that cycle:
the prayerful pause.
In this video, I share how taking just a moment to step back, breathe, and invite God into the moment can help calm intense emotions and lead to wiser choices.
Why the Prayerful Pause Works
• Strong emotions cloud judgment and make healthy choices harder
• Pausing slows the emotional reaction
• Prayer shifts your focus back to God’s presence
• Cooling your neck or face helps your body reset physically
• This creates space for your wise mind to take over
When you pause and pray, you replace emotional reactions with clarity, peace, and God-led decision-making — including around food.
A Christ-Centered Alternative to Emotional Eating
Instead of turning to comfort foods, we can remind ourselves:
God is my comfort.
God is my peace.
God will guide me through this moment.
This simple shift — pause, pray, choose — can help break emotional eating patterns and strengthen your walk with God.
