Psalm 103:8 The psalmist David beautifully described the depth of God’s love: “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.” (Psalm 103:8)
Each phrase reveals the character of God. He is merciful — withholding the punishment that humanity deserves. He is gracious — offering blessings that can never be earned. He is slow to anger — patient and gentle with His people. And He is abounding in steadfast love — a love that doesn’t merely exist but overflows beyond measure.
David wrote these words from experience. He knew what it was to fail, repent, and be restored. His words testify that God’s love is not fragile or conditional. It is steadfast — unwavering, faithful, and constant — even when we are not.
This truth changes everything. Instead of turning to food for comfort or control, believers can lean on God’s steadfast love — the only source that truly satisfies. His mercy quiets our guilt, His grace renews our strength, and His love fills the emptiness no food ever could.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your steadfast and overflowing love. Help us to turn to You instead of food when we feel empty, anxious, or alone. Remind us that Your love is enough to satisfy every longing of our hearts. Teach us to rest in Your mercy, trust in Your grace, and find peace in Your constant presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
