"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." — Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)
That's really what Step 3 is about.
Not giving up...
Giving God control.
Step 3 reminds us that lasting freedom doesn't come from trying harder—it comes from surrendering our will to God.
As I wrote in my book, 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating:
"Just believing that God can help us overcome our food addiction is not enough. We must turn our will and our lives over to God to recover. Step Three requires commitment and action in addition to acceptance."
Turning our will over to God isn't passive. It's an active decision we make every day—at every meal, in every temptation, and in every difficult moment.
If you're ready to stop relying on willpower and begin relying on God, my book, 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating: A Christ-Centered Walk Through the 12 Steps, will guide you through each step with biblical teaching and practical application. Available on Amazon: https://a.co/d/b59l7hh
