Most people think recovery from overeating is something you “arrive at” someday.
But the truth is:
Recovery is something you practice daily.
That’s why Step 10 is so powerful.
In Step 10, we do a quick personal inventory and set right any wrongs we have done. We are keeping our consciences clean and our minds at peace.
In my book 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating, I write:
“We keep spiritually fit by doing a daily inventory—a Step Ten. A daily reprieve from our food addiction is our reward.”
12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating, by Julie Kleinhans
And here’s the best part:
✅ You can begin Step 10 NOW
Even if you don’t feel “strong” yet.
Even if you’ve struggled recently.
Even if you’re still learning what your binge foods are.
Because Step 10 is not about perfection — it’s about awareness and correction.
It’s learning to ask yourself:
• What am I feeling today?
• What’s going on inside me?
• Am I resentful? fearful? selfish? anxious?
• Do I owe an amends?
• What do I need to bring to God before this turns into a food slip?
Step 10 keeps your recovery strong by keeping you honest.
It helps you “clear the clutter” before it builds up.
Not once a year.
Not only when things get bad.
Every day.
Because when we stay spiritually connected and emotionally clear, we are far less likely to return to the old cycle.
🙏 Today’s encouragement:
Don’t wait until you feel “recovered enough” to start doing recovery habits.
Start doing Step 10… and it will help lead you INTO freedom.
