Step 11: Staying Close to God
Recovery isn’t just about changing what we eat. It’s also about changing where we turn for guidance, strength, and hope.
For many of us, food used to be one of the first places we turned when we were stressed, lonely, frustrated, tired, or overwhelmed.
Step 11 encourages us to develop a different habit: turning to God.
“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” — Psalm 25:4–5
I especially love those last few words: “all day long.”
We don’t have to wait until we're struggling with a craving to reach for God. We can begin our day with Him and continue talking with Him as we go—before meals, during stressful moments, when making decisions, and whenever we need His strength.
The closer we stay to God, the less we have to rely on our own strength to get us through the day.
Today, instead of asking, “What do I feel like doing?” try asking, “Lord, what would You have me do?”
One day at a time, one prayer at a time, we can learn to turn to God instead of food. ❤️🙏
