Step 12: Sharing & Strengthening Recovery

Person in blue jeans and white sneakers walks across stepping stones over water, with text: The 12 Steps, Our walk with God.

Recovery was never meant to stop with us.

One of the beautiful things about the 12 Steps is that as we grow, heal, and experience freedom, we have something to give away.

And there’s another reason we give it away: helping others strengthens our own recovery too.

When we encourage someone else, share what we’ve learned, and remember where we came from, we reinforce the principles that helped us find freedom in the first place. Recovery isn't only about what we receive. Part of continuing to grow is learning to give back.

Someone else needs the encouragement you once needed.

Someone else needs to know that a life controlled by food doesn't have to stay that way.

Someone else may need to hear how God met you in the middle of your struggle.

That's part of Step 12—allowing what God has done in our lives to become a source of hope and encouragement for someone else, while continuing to practice these principles in our own lives.

You don't need to have perfect recovery. You don't need all the answers. Sometimes simply being willing to walk beside another person is enough.

We strengthen our own recovery when we help someone else strengthen theirs.
