In Step Eight of recovery, we begin the courageous work of looking at our relationships—honestly assessing where we’ve caused hurt and becoming willing to make things right.
This step is not about shame or regret, but about preparing our hearts for healing and reconciliation.
As I share in my book 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating:
“The point of this list is not for you to feel shame and regret; after all, Christ died for all your sins! You have already been forgiven by God, which is the most important forgiveness of all. The purpose for this list is to honestly assess who you have hurt, and work toward repairing that relationship.”
— Julie Kleinhans, Author of 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating
Forgiveness—of others, and of ourselves—is essential to moving forward in freedom. By becoming willing to make amends, we let go of guilt and invite God’s grace to restore our hearts.
💡 If you want to dive deeper into how each of the 12 steps can transform your relationship with food and with God, you’ll find hope and guidance in my book 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating.
