Sunday Devotion

Open Bible on table with text: Psalm 119:105 "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." Nearby, a cup of tea and a lamp.
Psalm 119:105 "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV) No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Paul is reminding the Corinthians (and us) that temptations aren’t unique — others have faced them too. More importantly, God is faithful and actively involved. He sets limits on what we face and always provides an escape route. The focus is not on our weakness, but on God’s faithfulness.

For overeating recovery, this means I don’t have to feel helpless when cravings hit. Even when I think “I can’t stop myself,” the truth is God always provides a way out. That “way out” might look like calling a friend, pausing to pray, drinking water, or simply walking away from the kitchen. My job is to look for that exit instead of giving in to the lie that I have no choice.

Lord, thank You for reminding me that I am never powerless in the face of temptation. Help me to see the way out You provide when I feel weak. Give me the courage to take it and the strength to trust in Your faithfulness instead of my own willpower. Amen.
