“My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” — Psalm 121:2 (NIV)

What do you do when you really want to eat—but you know you aren’t physically hungry?

I know how powerful that pull can feel.

For years, food was where I turned for comfort. Changing that pattern didn’t happen because I suddenly developed more willpower.

I had to learn to turn somewhere else.

And you can too.

When the urge for extra food comes, you have another choice.

Before you eat, stop and talk to God.

Lord, I want to eat right now, but I know I’ve had enough. Help me understand what I really need and give me the strength to get through this without turning to food.

Then give yourself some time.

Take a walk. Call someone. Read Scripture. Do something that gets you out of the kitchen and gives the urge time to pass.

Every time you turn to God instead of extra food, you’re practicing a new way of responding.

The craving doesn’t have to make the decision for you.
