You Don’t Have to Feel Like It

There are days when making healthy choices feels easier.
You wake up feeling motivated. You’re ready to follow your food plan, take care of yourself, and stay focused on your recovery.
And then there are the other days.
You’re tired. You’re stressed. Someone upset you. The food you’ve decided not to eat suddenly sounds really good.
Those are the days when it’s tempting to think, I just don’t have the motivation today.
But here’s something I’ve learned in recovery:
I don’t have to feel like doing the right thing in order to do it.
I can eat the meal I planned even when something else sounds better.
I can walk away from extra food even when I want it.
I can pray even when I don’t feel particularly spiritual.
I can reach out to someone instead of reaching for food.
Feelings change. Cravings pass. Motivation comes and goes.
But every time we make a recovery choice—even when we don’t feel like it—we’re strengthening a new way of living.
So if today happens to be one of those days when you’re just not feeling it, don’t worry about tomorrow.
Just make the next right choice.
