Becoming Entirely Ready: Step Six and the Power of Surrender

"I thought I was ready to change — until I realized I was still clinging to my old ways of coping."

That line from Step Six of 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating still challenges me today. One of my favorite quotes from that chapter says:

“When we let go of resentment, God will give us forgiveness; when we let go of fear, God will give us faith and trust in Him.”

— 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating, by Julie Kleinhans

Letting go sounds easy, but when certain thoughts or reactions have become our default survival mode, surrender doesn’t feel safe. And yet — it's where the healing begins.

Step Six isn’t about trying harder. It’s about becoming entirely ready for God to do the work in us that we can’t do on our own. When we surrender resentment, fear, shame, or control — He replaces those old patterns with something better. Something freer. Something full of grace.

If you're in a season of learning to let go and trust God more deeply, this book may be just the encouragement you need.
