Eating Out and Staying on Track

Eating out can be tricky when you’re trying to eat healthy. One restaurant meal can throw you off track — especially when the breadbasket, creamy sauces, and dessert menu are calling your name.
I get it. I used to tell myself, “It’s just one meal,” but that one meal often led to days of guilt, discouragement, and weight gain. It felt like all my progress disappeared overnight.
Here’s what helped me enjoy eating out without losing control:
🥗 Check the menu before you go so you’re not pressured in the moment.
🍋 Ask for simple swaps — grilled instead of fried, or veggies instead of fries.
💧 Decide your portion ahead of time. Ask for a to-go box before your food arrives and pack half right away.
🥑 Choose one healthy fat like avocado or olive oil, and skip the mayo, cheese, and bacon — you’ll feel satisfied without the overload.
🙏 Pray before you go in. Commit your food to a friend and ask God for wisdom to choose what truly fuels your body.
1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” When we invite God into our food choices, even restaurant meals can be part of our recovery.
You don’t have to be perfect — just willing. Every wise choice builds confidence and peace. 💚
