Step 10

After completing Steps One through Nine, we continue on our recovery journey through daily honesty, surrender, and reliance on God.

As I write in my book:

"Step Ten helps us to continue to consider our thoughts, words, and actions every day and right any wrongs we have said or done."

For those recovering from overeating and emotional eating, this means we don't wait until we've completely gone off track before seeking help. We pause, pray, examine our hearts, and make corrections as needed.

A difficult conversation, an unkind word, fear, resentment, or stress can easily become an excuse to turn back to food. But God invites us to bring these things to Him daily.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts." — Psalm 139:23 (NIV)

Recovery is lived one day at a time, one honest inventory at a time, and one surrendered heart at a time.
