Step 9: Healing Relationships

Sometimes saying "I'm sorry" is only the beginning.

Real healing happens when we take responsibility for our actions and do what we can to make things right.

As I wrote in my book:

"What is an amend? It’s more than an apology. It’s making right the wrongs one has done to improve yourself and your relationship with others."

Making things right isn't always easy. It takes humility, courage, and God's help. But when we stop making excuses, take ownership of our part, and seek peace with others, we often discover a freedom we didn't know was possible.

Many of us have used food to cope with guilt, resentment, fear, shame, and damaged relationships. When we begin addressing those issues God's way, the burden becomes lighter and the need to escape through food often loses some of its power.

Is there someone you need to forgive, apologize to, or make things right with?

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." — Matthew 5:9
