Are Processed Foods Unhealthy?

Do you believe that processed foods are unhealthy? How do we know which are healthy and which are not? Just because something says it’s healthy doesn’t necessarily mean that it is.

Here’s a helpful article by EWG (the people who put out the Dirty Dozen list): Unveiling 'Harmful' Ultra-Processed Foods: Health Risks & Facts.

Why is this so important? As the article says, ultra-processed foods (UPFs) contain additives that “make the food craveable” and can lead to overeating. Studies have linked UPFs, which are often high in saturated fat, added sugar, and sodium, to overconsumption and possibly “food addiction.”

If you’ve ever eaten some yummy, processed food and are anything like me, “craveable” and “possibly food addiction” feel like a fact — not just a “possible” side effect.

There is hope! Just like the alcoholic must drink but does not need to drink alcohol, those addicted to certain foods still need to eat — but do not need to eat their binge foods. Life without them is not only doable — it’s enjoyable and brings peace!

Come see what Reshape and Recover is all about. We use a Christ-centered 12-step membership program to help people recover from overeating. Membership options start as low as $12 per month, and you can try it free for seven days!
