Step 11 helps us stay in recovery from overeating by deepening our relationship with God.
I used to start my day with breakfast, get ready for work, and begin my day with good intentions of following God’s will for me. There’s nothing wrong with that, except I didn’t start my day in God’s Word, prayer, or meditation. When I am intentional in my walk with God, I find it easier to remember Him throughout the day and my day is more peaceful.
This peace helps me to stay abstinent from my binge foods and to refrain from overeating.
“Starting your day with prayer and praying throughout your day will encourage you, increase your positive self-talk, and also help you with your eating choices.”— from Step 11, 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating
When we take time to pray and reflect before our day begins, we’re not just reading words — we’re tuning our hearts to hear from the Lord. That connection changes how we respond to stress, cravings, and the unexpected moments that might have once sent us straight to food for comfort.
Philippians 4:6–7 reminds us:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
💛 Today’s encouragement: Start your morning with God and talk to Him often. The peace you’ll find there will carry you through every meal, every craving, and every choice that follows.
