Love Is Kind, Not Angry

1 Corinthians 13:4–6 reminds us that “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.”

We live in a world filled with anger — angry politics, angry debates, angry posts on social media. People lash out at those who believe differently, and hate crimes are on the rise. It’s heartbreaking to see how quickly anger and resentment can take root in our hearts.

But God calls us to something higher. God is love.

When we walk in love, we can’t stay angry. Love doesn’t demand to be right. It doesn’t keep score. It doesn’t stew in resentment or seek revenge. Love chooses peace over pride — and in that peace, we find the strength to resist the pull of emotional eating.

Anger and resentment drive us toward food for comfort. But love brings us back to the One who is our comfort — the source of true joy, calm, and contentment.

The 12 Steps give us a way to let go of anger and resentment before they turn into overeating. When we face our hurts, forgive others, and make amends, our hearts find peace — and that peace changes how we relate to food.

If your heart feels stirred by the world’s anger, pause and pray:

“Lord, fill me with Your love. Help me let go of bitterness and walk in peace.”

Let God’s love replace the resentment that weighs you down — body, mind, and spirit.
