Have you ever caught yourself trying to control everything—your weight, your food, your feelings, even other people? Me too. That’s why Step Three is such a powerful turning point in the journey of recovery:
“Turned our will and our lives over to our good and gracious God every day in all aspects of our lives.”
In my book, 12 Steps to Recovery from Overeating, I write:
“Just believing that God can help us overcome our food addiction is not enough. We must turn our will and our lives over to God to recover. Step Three requires commitment and action in addition to acceptance.”
Letting go of control can feel scary. We’re used to managing everything ourselves—after all, we’re adults, right? But true transformation begins when we stop clinging to our own way and instead trust God with every part of our lives.
When we surrender our will daily, we find a peace that no food binge could ever provide. We begin to live not just free from overeating, but filled with purpose, power, and God’s grace.
📖 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. … Come near to God and he will come near to you.” – James 4:7–8
