Understanding Why We Overeat

Updated: 19 hours ago

It's a three-fold problem:

Physical Addiction – Many processed foods contain sugar, unhealthy fats, and chemicals that are physically addictive, making it challenging to break free from overeating. Recognizing the addictive quality of certain foods is the first step in overcoming them.

Mental Addiction – We often crave the quick pleasure that sugar provides, especially when life gets difficult. Overeating can feel like a temporary escape from hurt or stress, but it creates a cycle of dependency. The 12 Steps offer healthier, lasting ways to cope with emotions and break free from food addiction.

Spiritual Need – Trying to handle life’s challenges on our own can feel overwhelming. Seeking guidance from God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, brings peace and strength. Relying on faith supports long-term recovery from overeating and promotes spiritual well-being.

Recognizing these layers of addiction is the first step toward lasting freedom from food dependency. By focusing on the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects, we open the door to true healing. With God’s guidance and the support of a community, you can begin the journey to break the cycle of overeating. Remember, each step forward brings you closer to the peace, health, and joy you deserve.
